1. Overview
I’m Umer Farooq, and I built and run VOOCalculator.com on my own. This Privacy Policy explains how this site handles information when you use the calculator tools and read the pages here. The calculators don’t require an account, and none of the numbers you type in — starting balance, monthly contribution, share count, and so on — are sent to me or stored anywhere. That math runs entirely in your own browser. Where this policy gets more involved is the handful of third-party services (advertising and analytics) that collect limited technical data automatically, which I’ve laid out in detail below.
2. Information I collect
There are two categories of information involved in using this site:
Information you provide
The values you enter into the calculators are processed entirely in your browser using JavaScript. I don’t transmit, log, or store those inputs on any server — I never see them. If you email me directly, I’ll obviously have whatever you choose to put in that message, such as your email address and its content.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, my hosting provider, analytics tools, and advertising partners automatically collect some technical information when you visit, including:
- IP address and approximate location (city/region level)
- Browser type, device type, and operating system
- Pages visited, time spent on pages, and referring URL
- Cookie identifiers used by analytics and advertising services
4. Advertising and Google AdSense
This site is monetized in part through Google AdSense. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
Google’s advertising cookies let it and its partners serve ads based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet. You can opt out of personalized advertising through Google’s Ads Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized ads at www.aboutads.info.
If I ever add other advertising networks beyond AdSense, I’ll update this section to name them specifically rather than leaving it vague.
5. Analytics
I use an analytics service (Google Analytics) to see how visitors use the site in aggregate — which pages get used most, and what devices people are on. This runs on cookies or similar identifiers and reports back things like pages viewed, session duration, and general geographic location. I look at this data in aggregate to decide what to improve; I don’t use it to identify individual visitors.
6. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict use of your personal information, and to object to certain processing, including personalized advertising. To exercise any of these rights, or to ask what data I might hold related to you, email me using the contact details below. You can also manage cookie and ad-personalization preferences directly through your browser and the Google/industry opt-out tools linked above.
7. Children’s privacy
This site isn’t directed at children under 13, and I don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent me personal information, contact me and I’ll delete it.
8. Third-party links
This site links to other websites — brokerage platforms, Vanguard’s own site, and similar — that I don’t operate. I’m not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites, so it’s worth reviewing their own policies separately.
9. Data retention and security
Because calculator inputs are processed in your browser and never reach me, I don’t retain that data at all — there’s nothing to retain. Anything you send me directly, like an email, is kept only as long as needed to respond or as required by law. I take reasonable steps to protect information collected on my behalf by third-party services, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
10. Changes to this policy
I’ll update this Privacy Policy when my practices change, or for legal, regulatory, or operational reasons, and I’ll update the dates at the top of this page whenever I do. Since this site is new, expect this page to get more specific over time as tools and services are added — worth a periodic re-read.
